August 17th - Kyoto: Fushima Inari Shrine

We spent most of the morning hiking up (and down, and up and down) the path up Inari Mountain.  Inari is the god of rice (I guess he's kind of a big deal in Japan), and all of these "torii's" (red gates) are donated to the shrine by Japanese business.

I love the little fox sculptures everywhere!  I remember looking them up when I got back to our hotel that night.  Something about being messengers to Inari, and providing protection to her shrine.

Today was another day spent with our lovely Spanish friends Marta and Albert!
