August 16th - Kyoto: Bamboo Forest, Rain

Last night was our first night at a BnB this trip, and we were staying with 9 other tourists from all over the world.  In the evening last night we'd met the lovely Albert and Marta from Barcelona.  They were also planning on checking out the bamboo forest today, so the four of us ventured together.

It was raining when we left the house, and unfortunately, during our visit to the bamboo forest, it started raining so heavily that it was difficult to stay dry even with an umbrella.  We sought shelter for an hour or so (for some time under the overhang of a temple that we'd visited, and for some time the four of us in the entrance-way to the women's outhouse), but it still didn't show signs of letting up, so we continued on with our day as much as possible, soaked shoes and all.

Side note: We found out later that Kyoto prefecture experienced rainfall of 303 millimeters during the 24 hours to early on Sunday, a record for the city, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
