We've
been hearing rumors about a typhoon in the south-west end of Japan, and
we were pretty aware that we would be receiving quite a bit of rain
where we were headed, but we didn't expect to be on a stopped train for
most of the day when the trip to Takayama should have taken a couple of
hours.
I'm writing my more recent blog posts from the train
ride to Takayama (and I've been dating them to be in order that the
events took place). With this delay, I'm now caught up (and I had an
excessive amount of time to ramble on about ramen noodles in my previous
post!). Garrett and I are sitting here, waiting and getting rather
hungry (our plan was to have lunch once we arrived, but it's now 6pm).
Every once in a while, the conductor will make an announcement in
Japanese, but we obviously don't understand a word. I overheard a
couple of people speaking in French, saying that the delay was a result
of strong winds and a bridge ahead. I believe we're waiting for the
winds to die down, but no idea how much longer it'll take.

Update:
It's now 10:30pm. We were moving for awhile, but now we're stalled
again by a tree that was knocked over onto the tracks by the wind.

If I have the chance to post this online, that means that we made it, hooray! Hopefully that'll be the case very soon.
