We unfortunately lost our whole day sight-seeing in Takayama (spent it waiting on the train instead), but at least the weather was nice for our day trip to Kamikochi! We arrived there by bus, and spent the day hiking down trails by streams in between mountains and amongst monkeys! The whole atmosphere of the excursion felt like a trip to Banff, or Yosemite, but the mountains were more green and their tops were covered by mist (and there were more monkeys).
You'll see in the bottom pictures - I was SO excited to see the first group of monkeys, that I took a million pictures from a distance (can you even see the monkey?), and then eventually they came closer, and closer, and then one hopped up on the trail with us. So cool!
