The flight was overall pretty good:
Pros:
Delicious food! First Japanese airline food - our lunch consisted of grilled mackerel marinated with miso sauce, rice, soba noodles, edamame, goma ae, fresh fruit, green tea, wine (Garrett had a japanese beer), and a tiny tub of Hagen Das ice cream!
All night Tetris Marathon! (I don't sleep on planes anyway).
For whatever reason, they placed Garrett and I many seats apart (now I'm not listing this as a pro because I don't enjoy his company!), as a result, we each got a whole row of seats to ourselves - nevermind being a couple - time to stretch out! Glad to see my streak of overseas flights (Thailand there and back as well as India there and back) crammed between two unknown larger men is over!
Cons:
The only real con that comes to mind is the path that the plane took to get us to Tokyo. I wasn't quite aware of how inefficient the whole thing was until I was sitting with Garrett briefly on the plane and Garrett pointed out happily while looking at the computer screen with the map on it "Hey look! We're flying over Winnipeg" (this was after flying all the way to Chicago, waiting 3 hours in the airport, and flying two more hours".
